British involvement in the war against Iraq may have been a crime: it was certainly a mistake. It advanced no British interest. It has instead caused thousands of deaths, and destabilised the Middle East, and has brought this country into various degrees throughout the world of hatred and ridicule. To say this, one does not need to be a socialist, or an internationalist, or in any sense disloyal to Queen and country. Opposition to the war is the most natural response of any conservative or libertarian.

So argues Sean Gabb in his latest book. Made up of essays written between September 2001 and May 2004, it can be read as a running commentary on the war with Iraq It may also be read as a sustained argument that the only legitimate foreign policy for the British Government is one that preserves the ability of the people of the United Kingdom to go safely about their everyday business. Such a policy need not be simple or direct, but it must credibly relate to this end. Perhaps the only benefit this war has brought the country is the destruction of Tony Blair as a credible political figure. But great as it may be, can this be justified in terms of the suffering inflicted on others?

(70 minute CD, read by Sean Gabb, published May 2004).

This is a set of readings from my book of the same title. While ostensibly about the war with Iraq, these readings are fundamentally about the foreign policy that Britain should be following in the 21st century - peace, free trade, military and diplomatic isolation.

Cultural Revolution, Culture War:
The True Battle for Britain

(book, 60pp, published November 2003)

An Anglican Bishop nearly arrested for stating Church doctrine. Villagers actually arrested for making fun of gypsies. Museums stripped of "imperialist" symbols. This is life in the Britain of today.

"Political correctness gone mad" some will say. Not so, says Sean Gabb. In this short book, he explains how Britain in particular, and the English-speaking world in general, have been conquered from within.

We face a new ruling class made up of the student radicals of the 1960s and 70s. Now in power, they are creating in their own behaviour all the corruption and bigotry and hypocrisy that they falsely alleged against the liberal democratic rulers they have replaced.

This being so, the leading writers of the "New Left" —Antonio Gramsci, Louis Althusser, and Michel Foucault— become highly relevant for conservatives and libertarians. They are relevant not because their analysis of liberal democracy was correct, but because it explains what their disciples are trying to do.

Before we can change the world, we need to understand it. This book helps towards that understanding.
