Free Life Commentary

I began Free Life Commentary in September 1997. I intended it to run as a series of short, regular articles sent out on the Internet. These would reach a wider audience than my hard copy work for the Libertarian Alliance. The articles have turned out to be neither short nor regular. However, they do reach a direct readership of about 20,000, and are forwarded to many thousands more. Many have been republished in hard copy abroad. Some have been quoted to notorious effect in the British media. In 2001, I gathered what I thought the best of them into a book—Dispatches from a Dying Country: Reflections on Modern England. I was not very competent at publicising this, and the only review I was able to solicit for Free Life magazine was only just this side of utterly damning—though I did go ahead and publish the piece to show how fair minded I could be as an editor! However, it did receive a most flattering review in Right Now!, and the flood of orders following from this has exhausted the first print run. I am now considering either a reprint or a second edition.

Here, you will find a complete set of the articles. If you want to comment on any of them, do feel free to write to me. But be warned that I am a poor correspondent. You may need to wait months for an answer, and that is if you ever get one!
