BODY:
The praise for Chris Tame in your excellent obituary [by Sean Gabb, 23 March]
is just and right, writes Edward Pearce.
He talked and wrote so well for true liberty in a time of sleekly incremental
illibertarianism. But it is no criticism of somone combining high ideals with
giggling good-humour to mention a vein of mild eccentricity. It only endeared
him further. He was, sadly and ironically for one who died so early and
horribly, a dedicated health freak who would keep up his exercises even in
company.
My wife and I recall walking, arguing and agreeing with Chris along a fairly
wide pavement. We walked, he, in his early forties, kept up (and surged ahead)
on his skateboard.
